2017 TASA/TASB Legislative Conference

School board members and superintendents should take every opportunity to communicate local district needs and priorities to legislators.

The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) and the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) are hosting the TASA/TASB Legislative Conference on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 in Austin at the Sheraton Austin Hotel at the Capitol.

Governmental relations staff of TASA and TASB will provide an update on legislative activities and proposed bills, preparing attendees to meet with legislators and staff later that day. In addition, key legislators and political observers will be invited to share their insights with attendees.

School board members will earn training credit for attending the conference.

The Legislative Conference is free to TASA and TASB members. There is no registration fee; however, space is limited. Registration is required to ensure an adequate number of lunches and conference materials are prepared.

Attendees may park at the Sheraton parking garage or at the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto St. A shuttle will convey attendees from the Capitol garage to the hotel throughout the morning. The garage is conveniently situated to the Capitol if attendees wish to return to their vehicles after visiting with legislators that afternoon. 

Buses will also be provided to shuttle attendees to and from the Capitol and the Sheraton throughout the afternoon.

Attendees wishing to stay overnight may avail themselves of a special group rate at the Sheraton. This rate is only available until January 31, 2017 and is subject to availability. Reserve your room.

Visiting the Capitol

Attendees are encouraged to make an appointment now to visit with legislators on the day of the conference. To reach a legislator's office, trustees and superintendents may dial TASB's toll-free Legislative Hot Line, 800.580.4885.

Texas Capitol, Capitol Extension and Capitol Visitors Center

Parking is available in the Capitol Visitors Parking Garage at 1201 San Jacinto located between Trinity and San Jacinto Streets at 12th and 13th streets. Parking is free for the first two hours. Accessible parking for persons with disabilities is available, along with accessible routes to the Capitol. Metered spaces are available throughout the Capitol Complex.
