Mary Ann Whiteker of Hudson ISD was selected as the 2015 Superintendent of the Year at the recent TASA/TASB Convention in Austin.

TASB President

President Bret Begert of Fort Elliott CISD has assumed his role as TASB president. He will lead the Association in the coming year with the help of other officers and the TASB Board of Directors.

Innovation Awards

It’s time to apply for the annual TASB Risk management Fund Innovation Award. Up to 10 Fund members will receive a monetary award to apply to their risk management efforts.

Millennial Meet-Up October 3

Board members born after 1980 are invited to the convention Meet-up Lounge October 3 from 7-8:30 a.m. to meet your peers, enjoy coffee and pastries, and share board experiences!

Texas Education Human Resources Day

October 14 has been declared by the governor as a day to honor HR professionals.  A sample board resolution and certificate are available to help recognize district staff.

Register Now for Convention

Early registration for the TASA/TASB Convention in Austin ends September 18. The October 2-4 event features inspiring keynote speakers and more than 200 breakouts.

Deadline for Delegate Assembly

The strength of the Association lies in its members. Every district is urged to have a local board member present at the Delegate Assembly, held in Austin October 3.

Calling All Administrative Professionals

Registration is open for the October 22-23 TASB Conference for Administrative Professionals at Association offices in Austin. Election rules, open government issues, policy updates, and other key topics are slated.

Finalists named

Five chief administrators have been selected as Superintendent of the Year state finalists. The winner will be announced October 3 at the TASA/TASB Convention in Austin.

New Attendance Rules

Changes in truancy provisions of the Education Code go into effect September 1. TASB Legal Services’ 2015-16 Principal's Guide to Truancy provides a good overview of HB 2398.

Health care affordability: 
Teacher groups again called for the state to increase its share of the cost for educator health care. Employee premiums have doubled since 2003 while state contributions have stayed the same. 10/29/15

On November 20, the Goliad ISD Board of Trustees voted to hire David Plymale as the district’s new superintendent. Plymale most recently served as superintendent in Trinity ISD.
