Advocacy

TASB represents school district interests at state and federal government levels. The Association works closely with the Texas Legislature, State Board of Education, Texas Education Agency, United States Congress, Texas business community, Governor’s Office, and other education-related agencies and organizations to carry out TASB’s legislative and regulatory agenda. TASB’s legislative goals and objectives are embodied in the Association’s Legislative Program, developed by TASB members through TASB’s Grassroots Process before each regular legislative session. For legislative updates and current information, board members can call 800.580.4885 toll-free or check the TASB website.

Legal Services

Legal Services attorneys offer toll-free telephone legal consultation to school board members, administrators, and attorneys. They deliver legal training, write legal publications, and write and review policies for school districts, community colleges, and regional education service centers. The division also administers the TASB Legal Assistance Fund (LAF), which files amicus briefs in cases affecting public school law, and the Texas Council of School Attorneys (CSA), which provides training and networking for school district attorneys.

Fee-based services

Throughout its history of almost 60 years, the Texas Association of School Boards has been dedicated to responding to member needs. As a result, TASB has developed a wide variety of services to assist Texas school districts.

However, TASB has also been dedicated to keeping member dues affordable for all districts. We know that every district does not need every TASB service every year.

For those two reasons, many products and services are not included in the TASB membership dues. This allows districts to pay for these services only when the service is needed.
