Inside HR Services

Plan now for professional development

HR Services’ Austin training calendar for 2008–09 is now available online. Registration begins in July. Two new advanced seminars for HR leaders will be offered:

  • Effectiveness Measures for the HR Department is targeted to superintendents and HR executives in medium to large districts. The course will examine how to develop strategic goals for the HR department and use data to measure effectiveness and productivity. HR leaders from Plano and North East ISDs will share their districts’ plans for linking performance metrics to strategic HR goals.

  • Staffing Reviews and Master Calendars will show participants how to evaluate staffing patterns and needs using benchmarks and spreadsheet tools in the morning session. The afternoon session will show participants how to analyze master calendars to optimize the use of teaching staff. Richard Lane, an experienced public schools staffing consultant, will be the presenter. Hands-on case studies will provide useful take-home tools.

HR Services also offers on-site training for district supervisors on a variety of topics such as legal issues in HR, interviewing skills, and managing performance. Call HR Services at 800-580-7782 to discuss a workshop for your district.

Update district contact information

Membership renewal begins in August and we need your help to keep our contact information up to date. HR Services’ designated program contacts are our primary communication conduit within districts. Designated program contacts can ensure that anyone who needs access to our resources can get it.

Next month, HR Services will send a list of all district contacts to the designated program contact and ask that person to correct the list as needed. Names should be added, deleted, or corrected to bring the district’s list up to date. Contact categories for HR Services include the designated program contact, alternate contact, salary survey contact, and online users. You can also call or send a message to hrservices@tasb.org at any time to add or change a district contact.
