Calling all DataCentral subscribers! Don’t forget to complete the five very short HR Surveys in DataCentral by Nov. 15. Do this and you will be able to compare your district’s practices to other districts on hot topics such as health insurance; other benefits; plus your contract practices for teachers, professional support staff, administrators, and superintendent.
The most important one of all—the District Personnel Survey—is due Nov. 9. Results of the 2011 Superintendent Salary Survey are now available in DataCentral. A version of the report (pdf) will be posted for all other members on Nov. 16.
TASB and TASPA hosted 118 school HR leaders at the 22nd annual HR Academy on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1. Participants had opportunities to network, learn about online resources, and hear best practices.
Appropriate for Halloween, Jed Reed from Garland ISD, opened the Academy with a humorous look at the role of the HR Department in Jed & Julia, Recipes for HR Success, accompanied by the ghost of Julia Child. Lisa Napper from Leander ISD shared valuable information on Strategic Hiring and explained strategies to control staffing budgets and recruit and hire quality candidates. Lisa Meyers from Austin ISD presented with Melva Cardenas on Managing Certification. TASB consultants April Mabry, Mary Barrett, Dee Jeter, and Ronda Bauman presented sessions on managing leaves, compensation, FLSA, and the popular game show Who Wants to Be an HR Expert?.
Last but not least, we extend an extra thank you to Chris Elizalde, attorney with Walsh, Anderson, Brown, Gallegos & Green, P.C., who has taught new HR administrators about the legal minefields they must navigate in all of our past academies.
Mark your calendars for the 2012 HR Academy to be held Nov. 5-6, 2012, in Austin.
We all have much to give thanks for this month. The HR Services staff is thankful for you, our members, and we wish you a joyful Thanksgiving holiday.
