Large District HR Advisory Group meets

Members of the Large District HR Advisory Group met in September to provide guidance and feedback to TASB on our HR Surveys in DataCentral and to discuss their leadership roles and human resource priorities for 2010-11. Members of the group attending included Carrie Durley, Aldine ISD; Pam Hall, Austin ISD; Marcia Daniels, El Paso ISD; Linda Bass, Frisco ISD; Janet Griffin, Humble ISD; Neil Dugger, Irving ISD; Karie Lynn McSpadden, Leander ISD; Jerry Dennis, Pasadena ISD; Tamira Griffin, Plano ISD; Susan Brown, Round Rock ISD; Toni Thompson, San Antonio ISD; Renee Coleman, Spring ISD; Sharon Roy, Tyler ISD; and Jerry Molinoski, Ysleta ISD. Some common themes that emerged in the discussion of HR priorities among districts included human capital reforms, reducing personnel costs, leadership development, employee wellness, and improving teacher performance evaluation and compensation systems. We appreciate the time and expertise shared by all of our Advisory Group members. Thank you!

Fall training for HR leaders

Our September debut of Rules of Engagement—Determining Employment Status was a big success. Fifty-seven people from school business and human resource offices attended. Evaluations were very positive so we will offer this course again next fall. Meanwhile, registration for the TASPA/TASB HR Academy on Nov. 1-2 is still open, as is the Staffing Controls for Public Schools training on Nov. 17. Have we told you how much we appreciate your district’s participation in our annual Salary Survey? We thank you for the critical role you play in helping us gather the data we need to produce the state’s definitive survey on compensation in Texas public schools.

The District Personnel Survey is the most extensive and important survey we do. Completed District Personnel Survey questionnaires This link opens in a new window. are due to HR Services by Oct. 22.
