Governmental Relations
Julie Shields, Assistant Director
Julie Shields is an Assistant Director of Governmental Relations for TASB. She is responsible for issues related to school choice, student discipline, student issues and instruction, textbooks, K-16 initiatives, pre-kindergarten, sex offender registration, and University Interscholastic League (UIL).
Julie worked as a television news anchor and education reporter for ten years. Most recently, Julie was the weekend anchor and education reporter at KXAN TV in Austin. During that time, she was recognized by the Associated Press, Texas Classroom Teachers Association, and the Texas State Teachers Association for excellence in governmental and education reporting. Julie covered issues pertaining to school budget, bonds, accountability, student discipline, textbooks, curriculum, and UIL along with all of the other day’s events.
Prior to her move to Austin, Julie worked as a morning anchor at the NBC station in Midland, a reporter at the ABC station in Lubbock, and as a production assistant for COURT TV.
Julie graduated from the University of Texas at Austin.
