Starting Points

Starting Points (myTASB) are policy development tool kits that include details on emerging policy issues, related information regarding legal requirements, and worksheets to assist districts in developing local policy.

  • EIA, EIC, and EIE: "STAAR Program" - Revised August 31, 2011
    The STAAR Program Starting Points helps districts implement the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) program, which includes new assessments in grades 3 through 8 and development of twelve end-of-course (EOC) assessments for students in grades 9 through 12.
  • DEC: "Leaves and Absences" - May 2009
    The Leaves and Absences Starting Points incorporates changes from the recently released Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) regulations and other revisions. The Starting Points addresses the district’s leaves and absences options to ensure that appropriate provisions are included in local policy.  Originally released April 9, 2009, this Starting Points has been revised in response to Senate Bill 522. 
  • FNA: "Student Expression" - Urgent - July 2007
    This Starting Points helps districts develop a new policy required for the 2007–2008 school year by the 80th Texas Legislature's House Bill 3678, also called the Religious Viewpoints Antidiscrimination Act (RVAA).
  • FFA: "Wellness Policy" - November 2005
    The 'Wellness Policy' Starting Points helps districts update their FFA(LOCAL) policy—Student Welfare: Wellness and Health Services—in response to the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.
