New Advocacy Resource
This week, the House released its proposed budget for the 2012-13 biennium. The budget proposes severe cuts to state funding for public education.
While the budget provides the amount of the cuts, it does not indicate how those funding cuts would be implemented. Therefore, there is no way to determine how individual districts would be impacted.
In light of that ambiguity, TASB Governmental Relations has developed this issue brief as a template to guide board members in providing legislators with the types of information that would assist them in making informed decisions about public education funding.
You may customize this document as necessary. If there is a question your district does not wish to answer or would prefer to answer a different way, please do so.
The bracketed/highlighted text and suggestion boxes are included to provide TASB's guidance to you when filling in the blanks in the issue brief. PLEASE DELETE the highlighted text and suggestion boxes when you complete your issue brief.
Once you have completed the issue brief, please share the information in a conversation with your legislator. At this point in the session, legislators are in their districts on Fridays.
TASB would appreciate receiving a copy of your completed issue brief. Please send it to Dax Gonzalez by e-mail or fax (512-476-3096).
