Grassroots Meetings

Review the schedule and register for your meeting.

TASB Governmental Relations (GR) will begin facilitating the 2012 TASB Grassroots Meetings in January. The meetings will take place in each education service center region between January 17 and March 8. At the meetings, attendees will discuss issues of importance to school districts that will eventually be crafted into TASB Advocacy Agenda Priorities, which will guide TASB during the 83rd Session of the Texas Legislature in 2013. Regional meetings may also feature local legislators discussing education issues with trustees.

Additionally, school board members in attendance will elect representatives to the 2012-2014 TASB Legislative Advisory Council (LAC). The LAC is the body that consolidates the list of proposed priorities from all regional grassroots meetings and recommends a final list of Advocacy Priorities to the TASB Board. Four members of LAC will be elected to serve on the TASB Legislative Committee.

In November, individual school board members and whole boards will have the opportunity to participate in the online 2011 TASB Grassroots Hot Topics Survey. Regional responses from the survey will form the basis for discussion during each grassroots meeting. This will help ensure that board members' voices are heard throughout the TASB Advocacy Agenda process.

School board members are also able to attend grassroots meetings closer to home if their designated regional meetings are farther than another regional meeting. Note: School board members can only be elected to the LAC if they are attending the grassroots meeting in their designated ESC region.
