Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent, as chief executive officer, is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the superintendent to be the education leader of Levelland ISD. The superintendent works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with the staff, students, parents, and community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a superintendent:
Is an effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills who is up to the challenge of making and defending difficult decisions that are best for students
Demonstrates a successful record of fiscal planning, management, and projecting future needs
Is a motivational, visionary leader with the ability to build broad consensus in support of district goals and plan strategically to ensure the development of education programs and the effective use of the district's facilities, resources, and personnel
Is prepared a make a long-term commitment to Levelland
Believes in an open door-policy and is accessible to community and staff
Is attentive to morale and recognizes the importance of staff members at all levels
Is able to show evidence of effective community involvement in their schools
Can effectively delegate and empower staff members to carry out their responsibilities while remaining knowledgeable and accountable for the district's overall progress in carrying out its mission Understands the importance and reality of the classroom teaching environment and be committed to supporting classroom teachers in every way possible
Is skilled in consensus building
Is student orientated and clearly understands how the learning and teaching process best functions shows clear evidence of raising achievement levels
Is able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees; provide timely and accurate information about the district; present sound recommendations for action; and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation Has a broad spectrum of successful experience as both a teacher and administrator in a district like Levelland ISD
Possesses and exemplifies high moral standards and personal ethics with a background of complete integrity

About Us
Levelland Independent School District (ISD) serves approximately 3,000 students on seven campuses. The students are served by 275 faculty, administrators, and support staff. The district was established in 1923 and is fully accredited by the Texas Education Agency.
Levelland ISD is a Texas Education Agency (TEA) recognized district for three consecutive years. Operating under TEA guidelines, Levelland ISD uses the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) to design a vertically aligned curriculum for all grade levels. The district also offers special programs to meet the unique needs of its students.
A $22.6 million bond election recently was passed to build a new junior high school and an early childhood center.
