Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent, as chief executive officer (superintendent/CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the superintendent/CEO to be the educational leader of Gonzales. The superintendent/CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with the staff, students, and community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain qualifications and characteristics as highly desirable in a superintendent/CEO:
A confident, proven educator with successful service as a superintendent/CEO or central office experience in a large district capable of understanding and managing a diverse district: campus administrative experience is preferred. Strong communicator with superior interpersonal skills who can defend difficult decisions that are best for students and for the district An experienced team builder who can unify the staff, faculty, and community Is an effective delegator who empowers staff members to discharge their responsibilities independently while remaining knowledgeable and accountable for the district's overall progress in accomplishing its mission Is a motivational leader who is attentive to staff morale, and has a proven ability in building an effective management team engaged in collaborative planning, problem solving, and decision making. A capable strategic planner who can help the board articulate and achieve a vision for the future A progressive thinker willing to listen to others and integrate new ideas and concepts into the district Able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation A reputation as an open, approachable, ethical and enthusiastic leader with a ready sense of humor who is involved in and visible throughout the district and community Committed to Gonzales ISD for the long term and willing to live in the district
