Qualifications & Characteristics

The superintendent, as chief executive officer (CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the superintendent/CEO to be the education leader of Warren ISD. The superintendent/CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district’s mission.

In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO:

  • A strong, experienced administrator who can effectively
  • communicate/articulate the district's vision to personnel, students, and the community and provide direction to everyone involved through a collaborative planning process.

  • A confident leader with a proven record of building successful teams, improving academic performance, and working effectively with different groups


  • A "people" person who respects others and motivates staff and students to excel by his or her presence, support, and positive example


  • Experienced as a teacher, campus administrator, assistant superintendent and/or superintendent/CEO in a district with similar demographics


  • Able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation


  • A creative problem solver who reviews all the facts, makes tough decisions, and then supports those decisions with resources and personal commitment


  • Knows school financial management and state funding laws


  • A person of integrity and strong personal ethics


  • Committed to Warren ISD for the long term and actively involved in the district and community

    Warren ISD

    With a 2009 TEA "Recognized" District rating Warren ISD serves more than 1100 students in 4 schools. The second largest student enrollment is in Tyler County. During the past three years, the number of students has steadily increased with an average annual growth rate of 4.8 percent which is expected to continue.

    The district encompasses more than 251 square miles in the southern 1/3 of Tyler county and northern Hardin county. Warren ISD affords country life at its finest although we are only 45 minutes north of Beaumont! Families enjoy the slow pace of a country lifestyle deep in the "Big Thicket" where the cost of living is low!

    With a broad and comprehensive curriculum, the district seeks to provide an exemplary education that prepares each student to perform in an ever-changing world. Students can acquire up to 24 hours of college credit via the District's Dual-Credit program with Lamar University and Angelina College. The ethnic student population for 2008-09 is 2 percent African American, 3.2 percent Hispanic, 94.2 percent White, .3 percent Native American, and .2 percent Asian/Pacific Islander.
