Qualifications & Characteristics
The Superintendent of Schools serves as the chief executive officer of the school system and is responsible to the Board of Education for ensuring compliance with all board policies, Georgia Board of Education rules and regulations, and state and federal laws. Candidates will be evaluated on their professional merits with emphasis on the following criteria: Possession of the doctorate level degree is important, though not mandatory. It is mandatory that applicants possess the L-6 or higher level certification. Successful experience as a superintendent is important, but not mandatory. Preference will be given to candidates from the Southeastern United States. Candidates with a documented history of leadership in community organizations and other community affairs. Candidates with a proven record of participation in and successful leadership in professional organizations are sought. Candidates with outstanding experience, understanding, and abilities relating to the areas of budgets, administration, and curriculum/instruction are sought. Candidates with a proven record of sound fiscal management, who are experienced and knowledgeable in budgeting and in education finance. Candidates who have been able to work cooperatively with the board and the community, and who have been visibly involved in school and community activities.

The mission statement for the system states "the responsibility of the Jasper County School System is to graduate all of our students so they are prepared for future opportunities." It is their vision to provide committed staff, supportive environments, and high standards to achieve academic growth and success for every child.

The Community Jasper County is located 60 miles southeast of Atlanta, 50 miles southwest of Athens, and 40 miles northeast of Macon. This growing county offers a broad range of activities for the whole family. There are historic homes and buildings throughout the county. Monticello, the county seat, is named in honor of President Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate.
The county offers a wealth of recreation choices nearby. Lake Jackson extends into Jasper County and Lake Oconee and Lake Sinclair are just a short drive away. The Ocmulgee River runs through the county as well, and there are lots of walking trails, horseback riding, biking, camping, canoeing and more outdoor activities to enjoy. A mild climate, a beautiful community with southern charm and hospitality, and its proximity to shopping and entertainment all make Jasper County a great place to live.
