Qualifications & Characteristics

The superintendent, as chief executive officer, is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the superintendent/CEO to be the educational leader of the Central Heights Independent School District. The superintendent/CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.

In concert with the staff, students, parents, and community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a superintendent/CEO:

  • Is an effective communicator with superior interpersonal skills who can make and defend difficult decisions that are best for students.

  • Is a visionary leader with the ability to build consensus in support of the education programs and the use of the district's facilities, resources, and personnel effectively.

  • Is an effective delegator who empowers staff members to carry out their responsibilities independently while remaining knowledgeable and accountable to the school board for the district's overall progress in carrying out its mission.

  • Is a motivational leader who is attentive to staff morale, and has a proven ability in building an effective management team engaged in collaborative planning, problem solving, and decision making.

  • Is visible in the community, on the campuses, and at student functions.

  • Is skilled in being involved with the community groups and organizations; and is able to effectively present the goals of the district to gain support for programs, bond issues, and community concerns.

  • Possesses high moral and ethical characteristics in a strong faith based community.

  • Possesses the ability to continually enhance the district's image of quality, small community atmosphere, and building esteem between the community and school district.

  • A strong educational and community leader with a passion for excellence.

  • Must reside in the district

  • Has a conservative approach to education that meshes with the district and community values.
