Qualifications & Characteristics

The superintendent, as chief executive officer (CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the CEO to be the education leader of Bay City ISD. The CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.

In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO:

  • A seasoned leader with experience as a teacher, campus administrator and district superintendent or assistant superintendent (preferred) who can provide direction to the district through a collaborative planning process.

  • Knows school finance management, including the effective use of federal and state funds (Title 1).

  • Understands curriculum and instruction and has a successful record of improving student achievement.

  • "People" person who communicates effectively and can motivate staff and students to excel; a team player.

  • Able to work in partnership with the Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation.

  • An effective problem solver, who actively solicits input from those involved, reviews the facts, makes tough decisions and supports those decisions with resources, data, and personal commitment.

  • Understands the culture of Bay City and/or has served in a district with similar demographics.

  • A person which understands diversity and can motivate all people to achieve.

  • Facilities management and bond experience preferred.

  • Committed to Bay City ISD for the long term and demonstrates active involvement in the district and community.

    Goals
    BCISD will provide quality teaching and rigorous learning in academic and vocational areas with an emphasis on mastery of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
    BCISD will provide a safe and disciplined environment which is conducive to learning.
    BCISD will place a continued emphasis on providing students with highly qualified teachers and varied ethnic role models.
    BCISD will insure fiscal responsibility by prudent application of all district funds.
    BCISD will communicate with and actively solicit input from staff, students, parents , and the community.
