Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent, as chief executive officer (CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the CEO to be the education leader of Temple ISD. The CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO:
A strong, experienced administrator who can provide vision and direction to the district through a collaborative planning process A confident leader with a proven record of building successful teams, improving academic performance, and working effectively with different groups A "people" person who respects others and motivates staff and students to excel by his or her presence, support, and positive example Experienced as a teacher, campus administrator, assistant superintendent and/or superintendent/CEO in a district with similar demographics Able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation A creative problem solver who reviews all the facts, makes tough decisions, and then supports those decisions with resources and personal commitment An honest person of integrity with high moral standards and personal ethics Committed to Temple ISD for the long term and actively involved in the district and community
