Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent, as chief executive officer (CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the CEO to be the education leader of Whitewright ISD. The CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
The Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO:
Exemplifies and possesses high moral standards and personal ethics with a background of complete integrity Firm, consistent, fair and honest leader not afraid of change An assertive, decisive problem solver who can make and support tough decisions Successful planner with a long-range perspective who can unify the staff and direct them toward a common vision of the future to strive for excellence in all aspects Experienced superintendent or assistant superintendent (preferred) with a record of success in finances, personnel and academics. Creative fiscal manager who can generate alternative sources of funding and effectively prioritize the allocation of resources Able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation Delegates effectively and empowers staff to carry out their responsibilities while remaining knowledgeable and accountable for the district's progress Firm disciplinarian who establishes standards of accountability and holds all responsible for achieving those standards Understands the culture of a small rural district and willing to live in the district
