Qualifications & Characteristics
The superintendent, as chief executive officer (CEO), is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the CEO to be the education leader of Memphis ISD. The CEO works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO:
A strong, proven leader who sets high standards of performance and holds staff accountable for those standards An assertive, decisive problem solver who can make and support tough decisions Diligent fiscal manager who can effectively prioritize and allocate scarce resources An effective team builder who can unify the staff and faculty and work collaboratively with different groups Committed to Memphis ISD and actively involved in the district and community Successful planner with a long-range perspective who can direct the staff toward a common vision of the future Able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation An honest person of integrity with high moral standards and personal ethics
Mission
The staff of Memphis High School believes that each student has the need, the desire and ability to learn. We believe that learning will occur when a student feels happy, safe, self-confident and successful. We believe that education should be a cooperative process. It is with conviction and determination that we accept the responsibility of transforming these beliefs in action, which will continuously and progressively equip each student for life with all of its responsibilities and challenges.
