Qualifications & Characteristics

The Schleicher County Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees will be conducting a search to find the next educational leader for the district. With assistance provided by Executive Search Service (ESS), interested individuals should access the ESS website (www.tasb.org/ess) to learn more about the position, including desired characteristics and timelines.

In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a CEO in Schleicher County:

  • Comfortable working and living in a multiracial, multicultural district and community


  • Successful planner with a long-range perspective who can unify the staff and direct them toward a common vision of the future.


  • Assertive, rational problem solver who relies on data and facts to make decisions and follows through on those decisions


  • Experienced fiscal manager who can set priorities and manage resources


  • Former classroom teacher, administrator, and/or successful superintendent with experience in several districts who can bring a varied perspective to Schleicher County ISD


  • Confident, proven leader who builds successful teams, sets high standards of performance, and gives those teams the latitude to excel without excessive oversight


  • Highly effective communicator with a sense of humor and easy manner who can inspire community members, staff, and students by his or her presence, support, and positive example


  • Open and accessible to all patrons and actively involved in and supportive of activities throughout the district and community


  • Mission

    The purpose of education in the District is to provide equally for each student the opportunity to develop mentally, morally, socially, and physically. This philosophy is manifest in the following educational goals. The District shall strive to:

  • Stimulate students to become creative and responsible individuals who can fulfill the present and future needs of our society.


  • Use the curriculum to motivate student participation in the definition and development of their goals.


  • Motivate students to develop positive attitudes toward our democratic heritage and to be tolerant of the views and ideas of others.


  • Fulfill the community's responsibility by providing opportunities for all students to acquire those skills, values, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for the attainment of their goals and to function effectively in free enterprise system.


  • Provide extracurricular activities that will aid students in reaching their potentials and provide experiences valuable for future use of leisure time.

    Curriculum
    Being financially responsible Schleicher County ISD will obtain and support a highly qualified staff to prepare all students to learn real world skills and experiences through a scientifically research based curriculum, that meets and exceeds TEKS/TAKS and embraces safety and diversity in a climate of life long learning.

    Technology
    All students and staff will have the opportunity to use technology to facilitate teaching, learning, and communication skills, bringing together students, community, home, and school using the most advanced tools the district can provide through financially sound decisions.

    Facilities
    Schleicher County ISD will provide and maintain facilities that are safe and secure, supporting the needs of staff and students while being accountable to tax payers.
