The superintendent, as chief executive officer, is accountable to the Board of Trustees, which expects the chief executive officer to be the education leader of Clarksville ISD. The chief executive officer works closely with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement policies and programs designed to carry out the district's mission.
In concert with the staff, students, and the community, the Board of Trustees has identified certain characteristics and qualifications as highly desirable in a chief executive officer:
Communicates effectively with all socioeconomic groups and works to build consensus Possesses classroom and leadership experience in an organization of similar or larger size Acknowledges students and their learning as the top priority Understands rural small-town culture and is willing to become part of that community Demonstrates a proven record of improving student performance and knows the state requirements Is accessible to all patrons and involved in activities throughout the district and community Is a people-person with a sense of humor who willingly works through others to build strong teams Is able to work in partnership with a Board of Trustees; provide timely and accurate information about the district; present sound recommendations for action; and build a climate of candor, mutual trust, and cooperation Is a person of integrity with high moral standards and personal ethics
Mission
It is the vision of the Clarksville Independent School District to provide an educational environment that leads graduates to achieve their maximum potential through active student participation, positive parental involvement, and community support in order to become productive members of society.
About Us
Clarksville ISD is the largest of four school districts in Red River County and encompasses 433 square miles. Three campuses serve Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. Clarksville Elementary School serves Pre-Kindergarten/Head Start through grade 5. Cheatham Middle School serves grades 6-8. Clarksville High School serves grades 9-12.
The elementary school has an account-ability rating of recognized. The middle school and high school are ranked academically acceptable. The district is ranked academically acceptable.
The district has generated $2.9 million in competitive grants over the last two years, some of which include a district-wide Technology Immersion Pilot grant, a middle school TARGET grant, a middle school Comprehensive School Reform grant, an elementary Reading 1st grant, and a High School Completion and Success Grant.
The Board of Trustees and its admin-istration are constantly seeking to make academic improvements. The district will continue to work on aligning its curriculum to state standards and making it available to teachers over the Internet. The district is exploring the impact of technology immersion on student achievement by providing teachers and students with wireless devices. Laptops are provided to each student in grades 4-12, and handhelds are provided to each student in grades K-3.
Meetings of the Board of Trustees are paperless. BoardBook, a TASB web-based program for electronic preparation of board agenda packets, is used. The Board serves as a role model for students and teachers in technology use.
Athletic programs have excelled this school year. Football advanced to bi-district playoff, girls' basketball advanced to regional and was regional runner-up, and boys' basketball advanced to regional.
A facilities study was conducted by Texas Association of School Administrators this past year, and a facilities master plan will be developed in the near future.
