Served as a school superintendent for 22 years, equally divided between Montgomery and Gilmer ISDs. He previously taught in Van and Goliad ISDs and was a high school principal in Lovelady ISD. Smith served with the U.S. Army Military Police in Korea in the early 1970s and received a master’s of education at StephenF.AustinUniversity and a doctor of education in educational administration at Texas A&M. He recently has served as adjunct lecturer at SamHoustonStateUniversity, participating on a team that redesigned the university program for superintendent certification. He lives in Montgomery.
