Will my application be confidential? Yes. TASB Executive Search Services (ESS) makes every effort to maintain strict confidentiality of applicant names and materials submitted with an application.
How much information is needed to support my application? The application should contain enough information for a candidate to “sell” her- or himself to a prospective employer. The best way to do this is for the candidate to stress accomplishments and show a positive track record.
Can an applicant apply for too many positions? Consultants like to have well-qualified applicants, so apply for any and all positions you feel are desirable and suit your qualifications. However, applicants should not apply for positions they wouldn’t accept if offered. Remember that many people may apply for the same position, so a number of well-qualified candidates must be passed over and you should not feel discouraged.
Should an applicant contact the employing organization? If the organization has hired a consultant, then all contacts should be with the consultant. If the organization is handling its own search, then a call to the designated point of contact is appropriate.
Would an administrator in a 1A district have a chance of being considered in a 5A district? It depends on what the employing district wants in the new key administrator. If you meet the qualifications and the position looks attractive, you should apply but keep your expectations realistic.
What kinds of certification or professional qualifications are needed? The prospective employer will specify the kinds of certification or professional qualifications desired. Larger districts may require a higher level of certification or qualification than smaller ones or those located in more isolated areas. The general rule is that certifications or professional qualifications listed as “required” are not as negotiable as those listed as “desired.” If you think you meet the general requirements, go ahead and apply.
Does Texas honor other states’ certifications or professional qualifications? In general, yes. Texas has rigid certification requirements for educators. This state does have reciprocity with other states, so an applicant with a certificate from another state can qualify for a temporary certificate until obtaining a permanent one. Inquiries about education certification should be directed to the Texas Education Agency. For other professional qualifications, applicants should contact the corresponding licensing agency in Texas. Most of these agencies are accessible through their Web sites.
