Doug Stover
Mayor of Coppell
Graduate of Irving MacArthur High School
Doug Stover, a 1977 graduate of Irving ISD’s MacArthur High School, is mayor of the city of Coppell and works as director of Compensation and Benefits for Electronic Data Systems.
Stover’s passion for leadership and community service was fostered at MacArthur, where he was vice-president of the student council and the 1977 Mr. MacArthur High School.
From there, Stover went on to Texas Tech University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in finance in 1981, then to Southern Methodist University, where he completed his post-graduate finance studies.
Stover was elected mayor of Coppell in 2003, but his record of community service extends far beyond that. He is a former Coppell city councilman and mayor pro-tem. He has served as the director of the Coppell ISD Education Foundation and director of the American Red Cross of North Texas. He is familiar with his local schools, serving them as chair of the Coppell ISD High School Grade Alignment Committee and co-publicity chair of the 1999 CISD Bond Election Committee.
Stover contributes to his community with his own time, volunteering as a tutor at Dallas CAN Academy, teaching Sunday School at St. Ann Catholic Church, serving at the Dallas Life Foundation Homeless Shelter, and teaching Junior Achievement for the past 20 years, for which he was named Junior Achievement National Volunteer of the Year in 2000.
“MacArthur High School holds very fond memories for me. I will always credit MacArthur High School as being very important in the development of my character and leadership abilities.”
