Born in Oklahoma and raised in Texas, Bill Moyers began his journalism career at age 16 as a cub reporter on the Marshall News Messenger.

During his 25 years in the media, Moyers has received numerous awards for excellence, including more than 30 Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Two of his public television series, “Creativity” and “A Walk Through the 20th Century,” were named outstanding informational series by the Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 1991, Moyers was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

In addition to broadcasting, Moyers was deputy director of the Peace Corps during the Kennedy Administration and special assistant to President Lyndon Johnson from 1963-67. He was a trustee of the Rockefeller Foundation for 12 years and has served as president of The Florence and John Schumann Foundation.
