(Austin) – The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected Karen Ellis of Richardson ISD to a three-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 10A.

Ellis was elected to the Richardson ISD (RISD) Board in 1999 and has served as secretary, treasurer, and vice-president. Ellis recently retired from the wholesale apparel industry after 18 years as an apparel representative and model.  Active in her community, she has served children as PTA president at every public school level and on the RISD Council of PTAs, and was awarded both a Texas PTA Life Membership and Extended Service Award. She has served as curriculum advisor and mentor for Leadership Richardson and president of its advisory board. She is currently president of the Richardson East Rotary Club and an active member of The Heights Baptist Church.

A graduate of Leadership TASB, Ellis received Master Trustee certification in 2001. She has served on TASB’s Legislative Advisory Council, as a delegate to the Delegate Assembly, and participated in panels or presented at major TASB events. An enthusiastic member of the School Board Advocacy Network, she testified before various House committees numerous times. She has served on the executive board of the North Texas Area Association of School Boards for the last six years.  Ellis and her husband, Ted, have three grown children, all proud graduates of RISD and Texas public schools.

TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.7 million public school students.
