Reyes Reelected to Statewide Association Board

(Austin) – The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) has reelected Marty Reyes of Ysleta ISD to a one-year term on the TASB Board of Directors, representing TASB Region 19B.

Martha "Marty" Reyes, a native El Pasoan, began her education at Ascarate Elementary, graduated from Ysleta High School, and attended the University of Texas at El Paso. As a former business owner of King Buildings of El Paso Inc., Reyes has been active as a small business advocate. She has served on the board of directors for The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (HCC), executive board for HCC, El Paso Community College Foundation Board, Make a Wish Foundation, and the El Paso Southwestern Livestock and Rodeo Board.  She also served as an advisor for the Women’s Business Center. 

Reyes is serving her third, three-year term as board trustee for District 6 with Ysleta ISD. She served two years as the school board secretary, having previously served as vice-president.  Reyes is currently serving as president for the Far West Texas School Boards Association, Region 19.  She was appointed by TASB as a delegate representing Region 19 to the Federal Relations Network in Washington, D.C. and accepted to participate in an advanced TASB leadership training program.

In 2004, Reyes was named Ysleta High School Honored Ex for her outstanding achievements as a product of the Ysleta community. She continues to be a tireless advocate for the children in Ysleta and promotes universal pre-k for all children.

TASB is a nonprofit organization established in 1949 to serve local Texas school districts. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 4.6 million public school students.
