Jim de Garavilla

Region 5

James de Garavilla currently serves as secretary for the Silsbee ISD Board and chairs its Budget and Finance Committee. Since becoming a board trustee in May 2006, he has served on the Insurance Committee and chaired its Ad Hoc Committee on Board Operating Procedures.

Since 1984, de Garavilla has worked for the DuPont Company and currently holds the position of research and development technology associate for polymer research and product development. He is a past member of the Society of Plastic Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the Polymers, Laminations, and Coatings Division of TAPPI.

A recent graduate of both Leadership TASB and Leadership Southeast Texas, de Garavilla also is regional representative to the TASB Legislative Advisory Council and serves his board as a representative to the TASB Delegate Assembly. He is a native of Massachusetts and a graduate of Wakefield Memorial High School. He holds a bachelor’s of science in chemical engineering from Northeastern University, Boston. His wife, Tammy, and two daughters, Kara and Lindsay, are all natives of Silsbee and proud products of Silsbee’s public school system.
