TASA, TASB, and TASBO Present Budget Cohort
The 2022–2023 Texas District Leaders Budget Cohort program kicks off on September 22, 2022, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.
The event is a collaboration between the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA), the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), and the Texas Association of School Business Officials (TASBO). Participants can earn up to 28 hours of training credits consisting of a combination of webinars and face-to-face meetings at the associations’ regularly scheduled conferences.
The cohort model is based on the superintendent and chief officers for finance, curriculum, human resources, and operations attending the training together. It is designed to allow districts to better use their finance and business functions to support and enhance other areas, including curriculum and instruction, human resources, special programs, and operations. Districts may send three to five participants.
The first session topics include the following:
- District Data: Understanding Current and Future Data including Financial, Student, Accountability, and Program Effectiveness
- Identifying Opportunities for Transparency as well as the Best Use of District Funds
- Preparing for the October Student Snapshot to Maximize Funding
- How to Have True Collaboration among All Departments when Building the Budget
- Legislative Update
Sessions two and three will be webinars on November 18 and December 6, respectively. Five additional sessions are scheduled through June 2023.

Karen Dooley
Karen Dooley joined HR Services in 2016. She provides oversight to a team of consultants providing staffing services, HR reviews, and other projects. She provides training and assists school districts with their HR-related needs. Dooley is a seasoned administrator with more than 17 years of HR experience in Central Texas districts as a coordinator, director, and assistant superintendent. She also worked as an assistant principal, counselor, and teacher, and holds a superintendent certificate.
Dooley received her master’s degree from Prairie View A&M University and her bachelor’s degree from Texas State University.
