The final regulations for Title IX, the federal civil rights law prohibiting sex-based discrimination at government-funded schools, have been released and take effect August 1.

TASB HR Services, Community College Services, Legal Services, and Policy Service will review the regulations and update resources, including the Model Employee Handbook, by the August 1 effective date.

The updated regulations are meant to clarify schools’ obligations under Title IX. Many of the changes are meant to ensure schools and colleges respond to complaints of sexual misconduct. The rules clarify the type of misconduct that institutions are required to address and strengthens protections for students. Rules governing athletics eligibility were not included with this release.

More information can be found in the FACT SHEET: U.S. Department of Education’s 2024 Title IX Final Rule Overview.
